Octopus’s Garden

Treasure

Treasure is an installment in the Fitzroy St. Tiny Gallery, from August 15-September 15 2024

Treasure features dark purple with copper flashing raku tentacles with white suckers surrounding a pile of found treasure, including a whimsical ceramic shell on a bed of PEI clay and sand. Green vegetation, solar lights, and a reflective ceiling completes the installation complete the curious underwater scene.

TREASURE evokes the mystery and wonder of underwater exploration and symbolizes the interplay between nature and human discovery.  The tentacles surrounding the shells represent the ocean’s protective embrace of its hidden gems, highlighting the delicate balance between nature and the treasures we seek within it.  The aim is to immerse viewers in a curious underwater scene, inviting reflection on the beauty and fragility of our marine environment.

Heathyr Francis currently works out of the PEI Potter’s Studio in Victoria Park, often biking down Fitzroy Street to get there. She’s built a small raku kiln to experiment and play clay, air, fire, and water within that very intense firing process.

Day and night videos are available on instagram and facebook!

I am slowly building up my octopus’s garden of raku sea creatures. Some were featured in the PEI Potter’s Studio display in the 2022 Art in the Open at Victoria Park. These inspired my business card and the three stickers I currently offer!

Keep your eyes out for the next installment!
